The first interesting poll results from this blog . . .

I'm sorry if this makes you ill.

Seven of you said you hated the Big East’s agreement with Notre Dame, while six of you said you didn’t mind it. I thought more would hate it than that.

Pencil me in as one of those who doesn’t mind it. The fact is, not enough Big East football teams have fan bases that can be counted on to travel. As far as I can tell, West Virginia is the only team with fans who will make trips to seemingly anywhere to see their team. Rutgers and USF have potential, if they could achieve some sustained success. Therefore, the Big East needs Notre Dame in order to get any decent bowl game to bite. It just is what it is. At least Notre Dame can’t take the Big East BCS slot.

Almost every single year the Big East’s BCS representative gets nabbed by the BCS bowl who gets the last pick from the at-large teams. In other words, a BCS bowl gets “stuck” with a Big East team. While this isn’t a huge deal… it has led to some great games. But the Big East will have “arrived” when the first BCS bowl to grab an at large team takes a Big East team. (The only BCS bowl that is likely to ever do that is the Orange Bowl, but even that would be a long shot most years).
